FERPA and COPPA

To the extent that MyVirtualTAs handles or has access to student education records on behalf of an educational institution, such data is treated as confidential and is only used for educational purposes authorized by the institution or the parent/guardian. We do not disclose or share personally identifiable information from education records with third parties except as permitted by FERPA, such as to school officials with legitimate educational interests or as otherwise required by law. Educational institutions remain the custodians of student records, and MyVirtualTAs acts as a "school official” under FERPA, subject to its limitations and obligations.

MyVirtualTAs does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 without obtaining verifiable parental consent. Where our services are used by minors, we rely on the educational institution or parent/guardian to provide such consent as required by COPPA. We limit the collection and use of information from children to what is reasonably necessary to provide the learning service, and we do not use children’s personal information for marketing or advertising purposes.
